How many tech devices are there in your home right now? You probably have a computer, printer, TV, smartphone, tablet, e-reader, smartwatch and much more. With that ensemble comes a bird’s nest of charging cords and power cords… and an endless struggle to keep them organized and tangle-free. But it doesn’t have to be: There are a number of cord management solutions to keep the chaos at bay.
These are our favorites, all budget-friendly and available from Amazon.
At just $8 for a pack of 20, you’re looking at just 35 cents each. They come in five different colors so you can coordinate your gear (a black-only set is also available for a few bucks more).
They also have over 9,000 five-star reviews on Amazon. “I like these things,” said one shopper. “I bought them to use as cable ties for my desk, which they work perfectly for, but I’ve since also used them to wrap cords for stowed devices, wrap my headphones in my bag to keep them from falling in the knot, I even use them to wrap the handles of my canvas shopping bags together.”
Pasow strips come in a variety of colors and you can buy them in single-color or multi-colored packs. With 18,000 five-star ratings, you know these will make you feel good.
“They’re lightweight with no anchors or starters, very convenient to apply, especially if you’re being turned upside down under the desk,” explained one reviewer. “You get more than enough so you don’t have to ration them or worry about running out. I burned them through my desk without worry, had plenty left, so I decided to organize the cables in the living room as well, and still have some.”
The ties are super easy to use – just put the rounded end through the hole and pull the strap tight; the bands then wrap tightly around themselves. They are available in pre-cut lengths that are adaptable for different tasks, but they are especially a good option for securing large, bulky cords. At $14 for a pack of 60 they are tres economical too.
“Trust me, you’ll find more uses for it!” said one shopper. “The best feature of these reusable ties is the way they can be looped onto cords so they won’t get lost or accidentally thrown away between uses… I have them in every room of the house. I use them on all small kitchen appliances for tidier cabinet storage and tidier countertops. I use them in the bathroom for cords for hair styling tools. They are useful for shortening lamp cords and clearing the tangle of cords behind the television.”
These self-adhesive cable ties stay on the cord when not in use, making them less likely to lose. They are made of durable, heavy-duty nylon that is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. A 40-pack of both 4-inch and 8-inch straps is currently on sale for $14.
“Love these zip ties/straps!” raged a shopper. “I was looking for something to prevent my growing collection of cables from looking like some kind of electronic spaghetti and found this. These are super strong and easy to use. As soon as I tied my first cable, I put them all around my desk and started looking for others to tie as well. I also like the variety of formats in this pack.”
You get 50 pieces – 25 small and 25 large – for just $11. Shoppers love it. “I consider this one a must-have,” said one reviewer. “The glue isn’t insanely strong, but once you let it set, it holds up pretty well. In my home studio, it keeps threads out of the way… It’s almost always cleaner to let the threads disappear and not hang; these do it better than anything I’ve seen.”
Unlike Velcro cable ties, these clips are stationary and can also secure items such as pens or toothbrushes. “These work great,” said one reviewer. “I would highly recommend them to clear up any clutter under or on the side of the desk. The single-cable cables are big enough to fit my keyboard cord, which is technically two cords in one thick sleeve. You’d be amazed stand out from the big difference this makes to the look and functionality of whatever setup you have.”
At under $7 for a 2-pack (one with three slots, another with five), this is an uber-economical way to bring some sanity to your desktop. “I am SO happy with this purchase,” said one shopper. “The cords under my desk were so unmanageable that my feet often got tangled in them. I already had some Velcro to tie them together, but it wasn’t enough to keep them neat and out of the way…. It’s that simple, but I can’t stress enough how much I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!! ”
This handy bundle has a whopping 126 pieces – four cable sleeves, ten cable clip holders, one hundred fastening straps and more. And, believe it or not, you get all of this for just $11.
“This cord organizing kit is extremely useful with multiple types of electrical cables and wires,” said one review. “I was able to tidy up the wires coming from my desk to the outlet with the neoprene zipper cord cover, which was very easy to install. I also used one of the sticky cord cables on the desktop to easily hold the phone cord charger .”
Cable management box
$20 at Amazon
We love power strips, we really do, but they can be an absolute eyesore. Look at the box! D-Line’s will do it all out of sight and out of mind, as it should be.
A cable management box like this one can help keep everything in one attractive unit and make the areas under your desk easier to clean. Available in white or black, it has three inputs and outputs and is large enough to fit most power strips. In addition, the price is currently only $20 for the small version (the large one is $27).
“I ordered a couple of these small cord management boxes. They arrived yesterday and I ordered three more the small size and one the bigger one,” said one shopper. “Two things I really like about this particular brand are the small ventilation holes at the top and the opening at the back, as well as the two ends for feeding the cords.”
For $30, you’ll receive a 2-pack (one large and one small) of boxes, plus cable ties, self-adhesive cable clips, and a fabric sleeve so you have everything you need to organize all your cables.
“I have three of these boxes all over my house,” said one satisfied buyer. “Not only do they make the area where all your wires are on the floor look better, but they also make it easier to clean. I no longer have to move a handful of electrical/cable/computer/printer/TV wires to clean the floor, or clean the wires myself.”
Of course, if you have Amazon Prime, you get free shipping. not a member yet? No problem. You can sign up for your free 30-day trial here. (And by the way, those without Prime still get free shipping on orders of $25 or more.)
