Bills CB Dane Jackson taken off field in ambulance after head-on collision with teammate

Buffalo Bills cornerback Dane Jackson left Monday’s game against the Tennessee Titans in an ambulance after a helmet-to-helmet collision with teammate Tremaine Edmunds.

The Bills later announced during their 41-7 win that he had been transported to a hospital and had movement in his limbs.

The injury occurred in the last minute of the first half of the game. Jackson covered Titans receiver Treylon Burks and tackled him low on a completed pass. As they fell to the ground, Edmunds ducked in and seemed to anticipate hitting Burks before heading to the turf. Instead, Burks and Jackson were already on the ground, and Edmunds made head-first contact with Jackson with the crown of his helmet, sending Jackson’s head and neck violently backwards.

An ambulance immediately drove onto the field to attend to Jackson. Jackson’s teammates surrounded him as he received medical attention before the ambulance took Jackson away.

The Bills announced after the break that Jackson “has full movement” in his limbs and was transported to a local hospital to undergo a CT scan and X-rays to test for neck injuries.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott had no further updates after the game.

“Hopefully we’ll get some news here soon,” McDermott said, according to the Buffalo News. “Dane has full movement in his limbs, which is good. And I mean, you go off the real part here. You go from a coach to just a human when I’m there and watch him get loaded into the ambulance. That is a real moment.

“Just pray for him, and it’s an unfortunate situation. But we’re praying for him, and hopefully we’ll get some more here soon.”

Edmunds, meanwhile, explained the hit from his perspective.

“Yeah, definitely a tough move,” said Edmunds. “I just saw the receiver still standing up, just to finish the piece.

“Sure, a situation I didn’t do intentionally. I would never try to do something like that to my teammate. But like I said, man, the receiver was still standing. I just tried to finish him off to the ground and, unfortunately , eventually I hit Dane.”

Jackson, 25, is a third-year pro who played college football in Pittsburgh. The Bills selected him in the seventh round of the 2020 draft. Last season, he was a part-time starter before being given a 2022 runway.
