INDIANAPOLIS – The Colts will have to do without Shaquille Leonard for the second time in a row.

Indianapolis has banned its All-Pro linebacker from Sunday’s road game against the Jaguars. Leonard came back for full practice on Wednesday and Thursday before Friday’s walkthrough, but he didn’t make enough progress on his off-season backup procedure to be ready to play in a game.

Colts receiver Alec Pierce is out

Second round rookie wide receiver Alec Pierce will also miss the game, as he failed to clear concussion protocol. In last Sunday’s game with the Texans, Pierce received a blow to the helmet that was so violent that the face mask buckled. He finished the game but didn’t get a pass and after the game he suffered concussions.

Indianapolis Colts All-Pro linebacker Shaquille Leonard will not play against the Houston Texans on Sunday.

Michael Pittman, DeForest Buckner, Kenny Moore Doubtful

Michael Pittman Jr. (quad), DeForest Buckner (hip) and Kenny Moore II (hip) are all questionable to play, said coach Frank Reich.

Pittman Jr. felt something in the quad during Wednesday’s padded workout.

“He just came to practice on Wednesday and felt something he didn’t feel after the game or anything like that,” said Colts coach Frank Reich. “It was like, ‘Well, what the hell is going on here?’ So I took him out of training mainly as a precaution.”

The Colts held a walkthrough practice Friday, which they had planned to start the year. On the injury report, they estimate that Buckner and Moore II would have practiced fully and that Pittman Jr. would not have participated.

The injuries will challenge their depth on wide receiver. Pittman Jr. caught nine passes for 121 yards and a touchdown against the Texans, and he could be more limited when he plays. Pierce’s absence will put more pressure on Michael Strachan and Ashton Dulin. Dezmon Patmon can be activated on Sunday instead of Pierce.

The Colts are trying to win in Jacksonville for the first time since 2014. It’s a site that has consistently tripped them up, including week 18 last year when they had a chance to get into the playoffs but lost 26-11 to finish their season.
